VisualDx is an award-winning diagnostic clinical decisions support system that is proven to improve diagnostic accuracy, save clinicians’ time, and enhance patient care.

VisualDx combines problem-oriented clinical search with the world’s best curated medical image library, plus medical knowledge from experts to help with differential diagnosis, variation, treatment, and patient communication. The software platform seamlessly integrates into the electronic health record to improve clinical decisions and enhance the clinical workflow.

The SMART® on FHIR® integration extracts the sex, age, medications, and problem lists from the patient’s record. This information is used to construct a list of patient-specific differential diagnoses and medications with clinical content available in VisualDx. The clinician can immediately access curated, peer-reviewed clinical information and images to provide an accurate diagnosis at the point of care.

Use Cases

  • A pediatrician sees a young girl with a rash. She starts a workup, adds findings and reviews the custom differential diagnosis. The doctor then confirms her diagnosis by reviewing the diagnostic possibilities.
  • An emergency medicine resident’s patient is vomiting so he looks at the patient’s medications and finds a new naproxen prescription. He clicks through to see what medication reactions naproxen may cause, confirms the diagnosis, and looks up treatment options.
  • A family medicine doctor looks up a disease from the problem list, reviews the medical images and better understands therapy options.
  • The provider shares images and disease information via the patient handouts to build confidence and strengthen the patient-clinician relationship.

"VisualDx within SMART on FHIR gives me the decision support I need to provide my patients with the best care possible. Because VisualDx pulls the patient’s age, sex, medications, and problem list, I can quickly understand any potential drug reactions by viewing a differential of possibilities. I can also read up on the patient’s problem list to understand therapy options, management pearls, and more. VisualDx is just the kind of intelligence needed in the electronic health record to improve diagnostic accuracy and enhance patient care."
