The Amwell Scheduling app enables Amwell to update the provider’s ambulatory organizer when the patient has arrived in the virtual waiting room. Staff members can schedule and manage appointments within Cerner for virtual visits on behalf of providers. With the Amwell Scheduling app, the patient’s arrival is then reported within the ambulatory organizer, allowing providers to complete the documentation of the telehealth visit and its subsequent processing through the revenue cycle (e.g. claim submission and adjudication, billing, etc.).
Use Cases
- Scheduled Virtual Visits: Amwell empowers providers to connect to patients with the click of a button from within the context of an encounter in Millennium Ambulatory. Once scheduled, appointments are presented in the provider’s ambulatory organizer. Using the Amwell Scheduling app, Amwell can then update a provider’s schedule in real-time as patients arrive to their corresponding appointments. From there, the provider can join the patient in the virtual visit and document the encounter as they would during the course of a visit in a brick and mortar setting.
- School Telehealth: Amwell enables a school nurse to connect with a remote physician via telehealth in order to treat a student presenting in the school nurse’s office with a cold, flu, rash, and more. Clinical staff can schedule the appointment in Cerner and allow the nurse with the patient to check in within Amwell. Using the Amwell Scheduling app, the provider can see the patient is ready and start the video call.
- Virtual Specialty Consults: Amwell allows facility-based follow-up visits or specialty consults to happen between a provider in a distant facility and a provider with a patient in the originating facility. Amwell can handle notifications and coordination with external sites that don’t have access to Cerner, while still allowing all the scheduling and documentation to happen in Cerner as the main source of truth.
